Terms of Use
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the ReturnScribe iOS app and the returnscribe.com website (together, the "Service"). By installing the App or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Acceptance of terms
By creating an account, connecting a mailbox, or otherwise using the Service, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
2. Description of service
ReturnScribe is a native iOS application that connects to a user's email account (via read-only Gmail or Microsoft Graph OAuth), parses purchase confirmation and subscription receipt emails on the user's device, and surfaces return windows, renewal dates, and trial-conversion warnings. Data handling is described in detail in the Privacy Policy.
3. Account responsibilities
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of any credentials used to access the Service.
- You agree to provide accurate information when creating an account and to keep your contact email current.
- You are responsible for the security of the email accounts you connect to ReturnScribe and for revoking access if your device is lost or compromised.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service (or older where required by local law).
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App, except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law.
- Use the Service to scrape, redistribute, or resell parsed receipt data belonging to other users.
- Circumvent the rate limits, body caps, or scope restrictions built into the Service.
- Use the Service to circumvent retailer return policies, perpetrate return fraud, or otherwise misuse the information surfaced by the App.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service or attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of it.
- Use the Service in violation of any applicable law, including export-control and sanctions law.
- Connect a mailbox you do not own or are not authorized to access.
5. Pricing and payment
The App offers a premium subscription at $4.99 USD per month, with a 10-day free trial available to new subscribers. The subscription auto-renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Pricing in non-USD currencies is set by Apple's tier equivalents and may vary. Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID and can be cancelled or modified in your App Store account settings. Apple's standard refund policy applies to all in-app purchases.
6. Third-party services
The Service integrates with third-party services (Google, Microsoft, Apple, Supabase, Resend, Cloudflare, RevenueCat). Your use of those services is also subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the availability, content, or policies of third-party services.
7. Intellectual property
The Service, including all software, designs, text, graphics, and other content (excluding user-provided content and your own data), is owned by the operator of ReturnScribe and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You retain all rights to the data you bring into the Service (your purchase records, structured parses of your own emails, etc.).
8. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. ReturnScribe does not warrant that the App will detect every relevant purchase or subscription, that return-window calculations will match every retailer's actual policy, that reminders will be delivered on time, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. You are responsible for verifying return windows and renewal dates against the retailer's actual policy before relying on them.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL ReturnScribe, ITS OPERATOR, OR ANY OF ITS AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE — INCLUDING DAMAGES ARISING FROM A MISSED RETURN DEADLINE, A SUBSCRIPTION CHARGE THAT WAS NOT PREVENTED, A DELAYED OR UNDELIVERED NOTIFICATION, OR INACCURATE PARSING OF AN EMAIL — WHETHER BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT, STRICT LIABILITY, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (a) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM OR (b) US$50.00.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator of ReturnScribe from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from within the App. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you materially breach these Terms, if required by law, or if continuing to provide the Service to you would expose us to legal or operational risk. Sections 7 through 10 and 13 survive termination.
12. Changes to the service
We may add, change, or remove features at any time. Material changes that reduce existing functionality will be communicated in-app where reasonably feasible.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The state and federal courts located in the Commonwealth of Virginia will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
